Absolutely have to agree with you Harry. The extra toughs are extremely comfortable and they only come in the one color. They are really like wearing a pair of sandals. If you are working in an area with a lot of rip rap on the ground they aren't ideal for the fact of that, but for work at sea and on ground that isn't real sharp, they are wonderful.

Chris, I'm pretty sure those 'work boots' the women wear are nowhere near as durable or comfortable as the real thing! I love the versatility, however - great for heavy duty work on land or at sea.

@justin larrison: I have worn this type of Irish Setter model for the last 12-15 years. Some last a year or a litte longer. Last year I sent a pair into Red Wing to have them re-soled. I got another year out of this pair but the bottom is pealing again. The leather is cracking so I'm due for a new pair this year. For $50 I got another year out of these overly comfortable boots. I would never buy a different type or brand of boots over the 844 Irish Setter. I am also in construction, excavating.

That's a great selection of work boots of all makes. I think when it comes to buying boots to last, it pays to go for quality over price. Buying cheap is often false economy because in time you'll pay more by having to replace them more often.

It's funny, I'm back at university taking some classes right now and there's a huge resurgence of women wearing work boots like this to class. They even have them in pink or flower patterns. Personally, I keep mine for the fields :)

Its good to spend alot of money on your shoes and get decent ones. After all you are wearing them all the time and you need to look after your feet.

Can't see how I could disagree with that. I live in Western Oregon so I know all about being out in the rain while working and playing. Having dry feet is a must if you plan on making it through the day in some semblance of comfort. When the feet get wet inside a boot then IMO it is near enough time to call it a day.
