Red Wing Work Boots

red wing work boots

I would just like to make a testimonial about red wing. I am a large guy. Over the 300 pound mark but I carry myself well and work out every day. I have worked in construction for many years and have had a lot of trouble finding a boot that was comfortable and would last me any amount of time at all.

If you have spent any time out all out in the field doing construction, you know how damaging rebar and other things like nails can be to your boots and the damage caused to red wings is not different. The difference is in the company. I bought one pair of red wing work boots that I thought were going to be comfortable, but they were a pair that was manufactured in China. Yeah China of all places for a red wing shoe. I couldn't believe it really. I guess everyone sells out eventually. Anyway I digress, After about a month of utter discomfort, they sprang a leak in them. Yay I said now I can take these ones back and get another pair as they have a one year warranty. I took them in and the manager was very pleasant and promptly ordered me a new pair as there weren't any in stock. Go figure.

When they arrived I put them on and they were even more uncomfortable then the last ones. I told hem so and we got to talking and ordered a different brand. I was tired of the China ones so I opted for a more expensive American boot. He took my measurements again and when the boot arrived I was like cool these are really nice. Thing is about a week into wearing them the steel toe started driving me bonkers. Another fortunate, albeit unintentional happening occurred and these sprang a leak as well. I took them back and he ordered me another pair for Free. I asked him to get them in a little wider width this time. These boots shortly suffered the same fate and sprang a leak.I really don't like it when my socks get wet. It kinda ruins my day.

I  took these back and the guy was still friendly about it and we talked about getting another type, one that didn't have steel toes. This was much to my approval as my toes couldn't take anymore punishment from these abusive things.  So he ordered me this other pair that turned out to be about 50 dollars cheaper. Yay, my fourth pair of boots that year all for the cost of one pair and now I got a refund for the difference. This next pair was the absolutely most comfortable boot I had ever placed on my foot bar none. From the moment I put them on, my feet were in heaven.

I was rather saddened by the fact that a couple of months into them that they also sprang a leak. I don't know why as I just wore them I didn't set out to intentionally make my boots leak. I truly liked them. Well this was about 9 months into the initial year of buying boots from them and they are into me for 6 pairs. When I took these back the guy was really surprised, but he did order me another pair on the house. When he handed me this last pair he explained to me that it was the last pair that he was going to do as they were into me for over 700 dollars. I was ok with that seeing how they had been so good to me up to this point.

Now tell me what other company is going to replace your boots like this. 7 times in one year and nary a complaint. It seems that yes maybe their quality might not be what it should be, but like I said I am a big guy and worked around a lot of rebar and welding. I am a union carpenter/welder by trade and build websites for fun, and that is why you are reading this from an actual tradesman.

Anyway. If you need some good boots that will last many years, then you might want to think about getting a pair of Whites, as I think they are probably one of the best made boots on the market and some of the guys I know who wear them claim to get a few years out of a pair. This says a lot in my field of work.

If you want a boot that is kinda middle of the road though from a company that will actually stand by their warranty, then I highly recommend trying a pair of Red Wing work boots on for size. Keep trying them on until you find the one that fits just like a glove. They are their and just like every foot is different so is every boot.
